York was always home to Earl, from youthful wanderings through woods to his spartan living as an adult. His history-making thru-hike in 1948 from Georgia to Maine was followed in 1965 with another thru-hike from Maine to Georgia and then again in 1998 at age 79 to celebrate the 50th anniversary of his initial trek.
Earl’s history-making adventures always brought him back to York. Your Give Local York online donation to the museum on May 7 celebrates Earl’s story and supports the work of the museum to tell the stories of hikers who have followed in his footsteps.
