The Early Days of the Appalachian Trail
Produced by the Potomac Appalachian Trail Club
This video shows early film footage of how the trail was built, including marking the route, measuring the trail, building shelters, and blazing the trail. You will see actual historical photos and footage of AT Museum Hall of Fame members Myron Avery and Benton MacKaye and the effort needed to make the Trail a reality. Together with the volunteers of the Potomac Appalachian Trail Club (PATC), the trail began to take shape. Take a step back in time and enjoy rare scenes from the Mid-Atlantic area of the trail before the hikers even set foot on the trail.
