Make a Qualified Charitable Distribution from your IRA
Looking to help the Museum without affecting your monthly budget? If you are 70 ½ or older and have a traditional Individual Retirement Account (IRA), you are eligible to make a gift from your IRA to the Museum. You can even do this prior to the age when you must make a Required Minimum Distribution (RMD). These gifts, called Qualified Charitable Distributions (QCDs – sometimes known as IRA Charitable Rollovers), can be made whether or not you itemize your deductions on your tax return. In most cases, these gifts are 100% tax-free, allowing you to protect support our work without increasing your taxable income.
It's quite simple to set up a QCD in favor of the Museum.

- Contact the broker or mutual fund company where you have your IRA. Many allow you to set up a QCD using their website.
- Tell them that you want to make a QCD. Our official name is Appalachian Trail Museum, Inc. If they need our federal EIN, it is 30-0127417.
- Many companies will send you the check for your QCD and ask you to send it to us. Others may wish to mail it directly to us. In either case, our mailing address is P.O. Box 45, Camp Hill, PA 17001.
