Our photo contest
is open to anyone who has photos of places, people,
etc. along the Appalachian Trail. The photos can be
from any year, in fact older (historic) photos are most
welcome. Keep in mind that we prefer they be submitted
in digital form, however if you have a great print we
will provide a snail-mail address to send those in as
well. We are trying to keep the rules simple. One rule
is that the best photos, in order to be printed in our
publication, will need to be available as 300dpi images
at the size printed.in the brochure. For the cover shot,
that means roughly 3.5 x 8.5 inches or larger if it
needs to be cropped. Many of the interior shots will
not need to be that large. Since most people don't deal
with digital image sizes and may not understand them,
don't hesitate to submit your photos even though you
don't understand. We will help you out if your photo
is selected. Digital photos taken at the lowest setting
may or may not work and will be determined by the judges.
Initially, submitted
photos should not be any larger than one megabyte. After
review, you will be contacted if a larger size is needed.
Entries may be used in the next reprint of our brochure,
website or other publications in the future as needed.
Submitting your photos gives us the right to use them
in those publications. All entries will be entered into
the ATM collection for future historians to view. Your
name will be identified as the photographer in any publications
the image is included in.
At this time we
do not have a deadline, but we expect that the next
printing will probably be by the beginning of the year
2008.
